The Smash Hit Musical of Cuban Culture returns to London!
One of Sadler's Wells' most successful productions, Havana Rakatan returns to the Peacock Theatre by enormous popular demand for a third year!
Ballet Rakatan: Founded in 2001 by dancer and choreographer Nilda Guerra, Ballet Rakatan is regarded as one of the most talented and versatile groups of dancers to emerge from Cuba in many years. They have performed throughout Cuba in some of the countries most prestigious venues and events including the Playa Municipal Theatre, the Havana Street Festival, Cuba's annual film festival - the Lucas Awards, the National Theatre of Cuba, and the Habana Cafe, as well as performing five televised summer seasons in Havana in 2006.
Most of the dancers are graduates of the renowned Escuela Nacional de Arte de la Habana, combining contemporary dance training with every aspect of Cuban dance and Latin styles; including Classic, Folklore, Popular, Salsa and Flamenco.
THE BAND
Taking their name from Cuba's highest peak, Turquino specialise in traditional Cuban dance music - Son. With it's roots in Afro-Caribbean music, Son is the foundation of modern salsa and combines instruments like the tres, guitar, trumpet, bongo, guiro and vocals - as well as being considered the first musical genre to use the drums played with bare hands.
Turquino formed in the early 1980s when a group of students who were committed traditional Cuban music decided to form a band. After performing all over the world, this band now bring their infectious, feel-good sound to the stage, forming an integral part of the Havana Rakatan experience.

Set to the infectious rhythms of live Cuban band, Turquino, Havana Rakatan is a captivating and colourful journey through the dance and music of this truly unique country.
